Comfort-oriented racing geometry
ACTIFLEX 2.0
The heart of the Granturismo SLR is the Actiflex 2.0 system. By dampening vibrations, the rear wheel can achieve vertical travel of up to 5mm. Version 2.0 is an update of the Actiflex on the Cento10 NDR, the bike that received the Eurobike Award 2017 and the Reader's Award 2018 from the prestigious Tour Magazine.
New design, more efficiency
While Actiflex 2.0 makes the Granturismo SLR soft and comfortable in the vertical, torsional rigidity and reactivity are guaranteed with values very close to those of Wilier road bikes. This is thanks to the bridge on the rear stays and the new placement of the Actiflex near the seat tube/top tube intersection.
When redesigning the Actiflex, the goal was full integration into the frame, not only for aesthetic reasons, but also for functional reasons. In its new position, Actiflex is protected from dirt, mud, sand and rain: an ideal solution to allow the four bearings to work smoothly and without maintenance. If necessary, dismantling Actiflex 2.0 is facilitated by the double screw fastening system.
Two types of elastomer
The spring deflection on the rear wheel is regulated by an elastomer made of viscoelastic material. On the models equipped with Dura Ace Di2 12V and Sram Red AXS, the elastomer is replaced with an adaptive 3D printed grid structure. This solution reduces the overall weight of the frame by another 20 grams.
Comfort-focused road bike geometries
Frame geometries play a crucial role in endurance racing bikes. To ensure maximum racing comfort, Wilier has to consider different proportions between the tubes of the frame. They have a slightly shorter seating position (the reach is smaller compared to bikes with conventional racing geometries) or a higher seating position (a larger stack compared to racing geometries).
This combination of reach & stack allows for a comfortable riding position without having to use spacers between the stem and the frame. How often do you see cyclists riding pure racing bikes with several centimeter spacers on the handlebars? With the Granturismo SLR, the look of the bike is harmonious, proportioned, balanced and at the same time road bike-like.
High range carbon
For the Granturismo SLR, Wilier mixes HUS-MOD carbon with liquid crystal polymers, a special fiber used between the carbon meshes to increase vertical elasticity while increasing torsional rigidity. This solution is also widely used on high-end bikes such as the Filante SLR and the Wilier 0 SLR.
Aerodynamics also in the endurance world
When we talk long-distance, we're talking hours in the saddle. Even if Wilier is not striving for top racing performance with the Granturismo SLR, it goes without saying that aerodynamics also play an important role in a bike of this type.
Even a small change or improvement can save several watts over many hours in the saddle. To do this, they have adopted some features of the Filante SLR (their aerodynamic racing bike). In addition to the optimized tube shapes, Wilier has also adopted the very wide fork, the integrated monocoque handlebar and the fully integrated cable routing.
tire clearance
A wide fork not only offers aerodynamic advantages, but also generous tire clearance. The Granturismo SLR allows the fitting of wheels with a maximum tire width of 32mm, which is perfect for this modern bike with an endurance DNA.
Removable derailleur mount
The derailleur strap is removable, like on the Rave SLR. Wilier believes that in the not too distant future, the use of 1x groupsets will become more common on non-competitive road bikes as well. The 1x groupset replaces the derailleur carrier with a flat plate to maintain the clean look without the derailleur.
Carbon Moncoque handlebar
For the Granturismo SLR, Wilier uses the monocoque handlebars that they normally mount on the Wilier 0 SLR – their flagship uphill bike. The 0-bar handlebar has an ergonomic, rounded grip that is less demanding than the equivalent Aero Filante bar and perfectly adapts to the frame thanks to the spacers that are the same as those on the Filante SLR.
Your 0-Bar is a monocoque handlebar in which the brake and shifter cables can be routed inside the frame. This protects them from air friction and gives the Granturismo SLR a tidy, linear appearance that characterizes the high-end products from Wilier Triestina. In any case, the Granturismo SLR is compatible with all Wilier Triestina monocoque and modular handlebars.
Easy fit spacers
The spacers between the frame's head tube and the handlebars are made of high-rigidity composite material and have a special cavity for cable routing. The two-piece construction enables easy assembly and disassembly without additional work on the cables that run between the handlebars and the frame.
