In this chapter we explain the technologies that the manufacturer uses in this product.
Dual Compound
Two different rubber compounds are processed into a tread strip. We plan the arrangement of the compounds according to the desired properties of the tires.
3C Maxx Terra
The right 3C mixture for enduro and freeride tires. This mixture is characterized by smooth running uphill and excellent grip downhill, as well as a long service life.
3C MaxxGrip
The well-known 3C downhill compound, which many of the best downhillers have trusted for years, is now called 3C MaxxGrip. 3C MaxxGrip offers the ultimate grip and the best damping properties for incomparable traction on downhills.
EXO-Protection
This extremely cut and abrasion-resistant material protects the sidewall of various MTB tires. It is very tightly woven, light and very flexible. This means that the performance of the tires remains consistently impressively good.
EXO+ Protection
The new EXO+ construction combines two of the best puncture protection materials: SilkShield and EXO.
The SilkShield layer surrounds the entire tire from bead to bead, the EXO layer is mounted on the sidewalls. Together this creates EXO+ with the following advantages:
27% better puncture protection on the tread*
51% more stable sidewall*
28% more penetration protection*
* compared to the proven stable EXO carcass
Tires with EXO+ protection are built for aggressive trail riding and enduro racing, and are especially designed for the higher torque and weight of E-MTBs. First of all, there are wide versions of the popular Minion DHF, Minion DHr II and Rekon with EXO+ casings.
Tubeless Ready (TR)
Tubeless tires have many advantages: You can ride with less air pressure. This gives you better traction and reduces rolling resistance. And where there is no tube, the risk of punctures is also reduced. MAXXIS TR tires are better prepared for installation with sealant than other "tubeless ready" tires. The bead of the TR tire is completely covered with a layer of rubber, just like a real UST tubeless tire. This means that tubeless installation is successful on all rims with standard dimensions after the first inflation and with little liquid. "Normal" MAXXIS MTB tires can also be installed tubeless with sealant, like tires from other manufacturers, because the carcass fabric is very dense. However, only the new MAXXIS TR models are officially approved for tubeless installation and guaranteed by MAXXIS. Tubeless installation of other models is at your own risk.
Double Down
Doubledown tires are constructed like downhill tires: two carcass layers reinforced with a butyl insert in the sidewall. However, thanks to two 120 TPI (instead of 60 TPI) carcass layers and an aramid bead, they are significantly lighter than downhill tires, significantly more stable and robust than TR + EXO tires and therefore ideal for tough enduro courses.
Wide Trail Casing
The Wide Trail (WT) construction optimizes the tread layout and tire shape on today's wider rims. Traditional tires are designed for narrow rims and are too square on wide rims, resulting in less than optimal performance. WT tires are optimized for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but work excellently on all rims with an inner dimension between 30 and 39 mm.
